Getting Bikes to Those Who Need Them

We accept donated bikes that need repairs and get them to kids and adults who need them for affordable prices or even free because everyone deserves the freedom, health, and independence a bike provides — regardless of income.

Why we do it

  • Reduce barriers: A broken or unaffordable bike shouldn’t keep someone from commuting, getting to school, or simply enjoying outdoor play.

  • Build community: Repairing donated bikes brings volunteers, mechanics, and neighbors together — skills and friendships get passed along with the wheels.

  • Stretch resources: Donated bikes are valuable. Fixing and reusing them keeps useful things out of landfills and makes transportation accessible at low or no cost.

  • Teach and empower: Workshops and hands-on repairs teach people mechanical skills so they can maintain their bikes and feel confident on the road.

  • Improve health and mobility: Cycling boosts physical and mental health and opens up new opportunities for work, school, and recreation.

  • Promote equity: Affordable or free bikes help level the playing field for people who can’t afford new bikes or reliable transportation.

How it helps recipients

  • Kids get safe, reliable bikes to ride to school and play with friends.

  • Adults gain affordable commuting options, saving money and time.

  • Families receive mobility that supports jobs, errands, and family activities.

  • New riders build confidence through training and maintenance support.

How it works (brief)

  • Collect: Communities donate used bikes in various conditions.

  • Repair: Volunteers and technicians assess, fix, and refurbish — prioritizing safety.

  • Distribute: Bikes go to those in need at low cost or for free; some programs offer payment plans or earn-a-bike options.

  • Train: Recipients often receive basic maintenance lessons and safety gear when possible.

In short: We turn donated, repairable bikes into practical, affordable wheels so more people can ride, connect, and thrive.
